Enabling the Theme App Extension for SmartOrderLimit

The SmartOrderLimit app uses a Shopify Theme App Extension to display order limit notifications and enforce rules directly on your storefront. To ensure the app works correctly, you must enable the SmartOrderLimit extension in your active theme.


This guide will walk you through the steps.


Before You Start

  • You must be logged in as the store owner or have permission to edit themes

  • SmartOrderLimit must already be installed on your Shopify store (see SmartOrderLimit – Installation Guide)

  • Know which theme is currently published (live)


Step-by-Step Guide

1. Log in to Shopify Admin

Sign in to your Shopify Admin dashboard.


2. Go to Themes

  • Navigate to Online Store > Themes

  • Locate your current (published) theme

  • Click Edit theme on your active theme


3. Open App Embeds

  • In the theme editor, click App embeds (icon on the left sidebar)


5. Enable SmartOrderLimit

  • Find SmartOrderLimit in the list of app embeds

  • Toggle the switch ON


💡 This enables storefront features such as popup notifications and limit enforcement.


6. Save Your Changes

  • Click Save in the top-right corner of the theme editor


Verify the Extension Is Working

After enabling the extension:

  • Visit your storefront

  • Add products to the cart that are covered by an active limit

  • Confirm that the SmartOrderLimit notification or restriction appears as expected


Common Issues & Troubleshooting

SmartOrderLimit is not showing on the storefront

  • Ensure the extension is enabled on the published theme

  • Clear your browser cache and refresh the page

  • Check that at least one active limit exists in the app


I switched themes

  • Theme app extensions must be enabled per theme

  • Repeat the steps above for the new theme
